Water used to serve as a coolant in machines that generate heat during their operations including engines, motors, heat exchangers among others which require cooling to avoid damage. The cooling water circulates, taking away the heat and back to a cooling tower when it is cooled again to repeat the cycle. Cooling water Systems are largely subdivided into two categories- open loop system and closed loop systems.
Open loop (OL)
These systems get exposed to the outside environment with its contaminants like dust, algae, bacteria, and other forms of dirt.
Closed loop (CL)
These systems are ideally sealed off and only likely to have impurities of ionic nature and sometimes micro-organic in case of a leakage.
The two systems therefore require two different approaches to treatment.
Classification
- Biocide
- Algaecide
- Bio dispersant
- Antiscalant
- Corrosion Inhibitor
Application
- Biocide reduces the risk of legionella proliferation, excellent broad-spectrum control of microorganisms and effective against biofilms.
- Algaecide synergies wide spectrum for control of algae and slime.
- Bio dispersant is a bactericide for control of both planktonic and sessile organisms
- Antiscalant controls scale formation, dispersion and crystal modification and monomolecular film formation in soft waters.
- Corrosion Inhibitor for prevention of steel and iron corrosion, oxygen exclusion, reduction of cavitations and erosion
